STEP 3: EXPLORE
OVERVIEW
This step involves exploring options for how to best achieve the project vision. Targeted research is conducted to develop the best array of possibilities for each theme and mechanisms are determined for how to evaluate the impact of planning and design decisions. By the end of this step, the SuNliving framework has been populated with goals, indicators, and targets, as well as a preliminary set of strategies and actions.
For each sustainable neighbourhood theme, issue areas which require greater attention and investigation are identified.
Task 8: Develop Project Models
Computer modeling is used to create digitized scenarios that represent possible alternatives for how to develop the site. They assist in visualizing, measuring and comparing the performance alternatives.
Stakeholders assist in establishing goals that describe the desired condition to be achieved in the context of the sustainable neighbourhood principles and the project vision.
Stakeholders assist in establishing indicators that measure progress towards specific goals and provide a mechanism for setting desired targets.
Case study and scenario benchmarks are used along with stakeholder feedback to establish feasible yet challenging targets for each indicator.
Task 12: Generate Preliminary Strategies & Actions
Preliminary strategies and actions are identified that have the potential to achieve the goals and associated targets.
