Task 12: Generate Preliminary Strategies and Actions
Identify potential strategies and actions
The sustainability consultant identifies a menu of potential strategies and actions for how to achieve each target. Strategies are general approaches for achieving a goal and its associated targets thereby advancing performance. They should be integrated into system solutions to ensure that synergies are optimized. Actions represent a series of practices or design measures implemented as solutions for achieving a target. They demonstrate different ways that targets can be achieved. Actions offer very specific design-related instructions and can refer to technologies, policies, programs or program requirements.
A list of potential strategies and associated actions can be compiled either for each sustainable neighbourhood theme, or for each goal. The proposed strategies are not intended to represent a definitive list, but rather to serve as a starting point for the design. The charrette team is encouraged to develop additional strategies and actions if desired.
Finalize foundation research bulletins
Preliminary foundation bulletins identified issue areas and provided high-level background information and secondary research. As goals, indicators, benchmarks and targets were established, in-depth research identified strategies relevant to each theme and system solutions relevant to the overall project. This detailed information is compiled in the foundation research bulletins. These research bulletins provide the detailed information and master list of strategies used to inform the design.
