Task 6: Establish Project Vision
Deliver stakeholder visioning workshop
The visioning workshop is the first substantial opportunity for stakeholders, including the public, to meet and to talk about the site, their vision for a successful future and their concerns. It is also an opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of the sustainable nature of the project. While participants do not directly craft a vision statement, they are given the opportunity to freely express their views so that common directions and community values can be determined. This workshop is generally facilitated by the sustainability consultant and/or sustainability coordinator.

Craft vision statement
Based on input from the visioning workshop, the core team generates and verifies a vision statement for the proposed project that represents common stakeholder views. A good vision statement is based on community values and describes what the neighbourhood will be like at some point in the future and what it will be like to live there. This vision statement can be shared with the stakeholders and others at large as an important milestone and becomes one of the key touchstones that guide the process.

Vision Statement "Emerald Hills Urban Village will be an inspirational neighbourhood benefiting both people and the planet, now and in the future. It will integrate beautifully designed natural, public, private and commercial spaces into a pedestrian friendly, mixed use community for young families, active adults and seniors. It will make sustainable living easy, attractive and affordable by transforming homes, shops and services into opportunities to live, work, play and relax that enhance the health and well-being of both its citizens and the ecosystems upon which they rely." |
