Task 8: Develop Project Models
Generate digitized base site model
The sustainability consultant uses computer modeling tools to create a digitized site model. The model is used in later SuNliving steps to visualize, measure and compare alternative scenarios. It is a valuable tool for analysing the often complex relationships between form, space and numerical data. The site model serves as a departure point for developing scenarios that enhance the understanding of design strategies and their relative benefits for sustainable neighbourhood development.

Determine number and types of scenarios
Using the digitized site model as a base, a range of scenarios can be developed to explore one or more plausible alternatives of how to plan and design the site. They reveal the possible opportunities and limitations that might result if different sets of values or strategies are pursued and make it easier to understand the magnitude of the impact of different decisions.
The sustainability consultant and the project team determine the number and types of scenarios to be developed based on different, but internally consistent, sets of assumptions. The intent with scenarios is to portray a spectrum of development options in order to enhance the decision-making process. The spectrum can include, for example, a business-as-usual scenario, a scenario in which sustainable neighbourhood principles are fully achieved and an intermediate option between the first two.
Prepare digitized scenario models
The sustainability consultant prepares one or more digitized scenario models chosen to best convey the different design options. Comparing these strategically different scenarios can be later used by charrette participants to explore their design expectations as well as learn about what might result from other approaches.
